The Petites Soeurs des Pauvres (The Little Sisters of the Poor) is a Roman Catholic religious
institute for women. It was founded in 1839 by Saint Jeanne Jugan. Jugan
established the order to care for the elderly, having felt the need to
care for the many impoverished elderly who lined the streets of French
towns and cities."They do so much for lonely and poor people," said Francine. "My friend who was a widow with a very small pension called them to see where she could find some help. They took her in till her last day.
Women consecrated to God, we are an international religious congregation that is part of the Catholic Church.
As a result, our special mission is the service of the elderly poor, without distinction of cultures or religions. With the help of a large network of lay people, we welcome them to homes that become theirs, and form with them a great family , accompanying them with respect for their dignity until the natural end of life.
The ministry is established in more than 31 countries.
"They give dignity to the old and poor. The nuns and the volunteers are so wonderful."
